Valour Place was built from the dedication of volunteers and thousands of hours have been donated to help our heroes and their families. Volunteers touch all areas of Valour Place from supporting our families, maintaining our house, assisting with fundraising events, and sustaining the organization as a whole.

CRUCIAL VOLUNTEER NEED:

Volunteer Coordinator: We are looking for someone who has a few hours a week to reply to volunteering inquiries, create email blasts to share upcoming volunteer opportunities, and meet with potential volunteers. If you are a people person and enjoy being organized, please apply through the form below.

Other Ongoing Opportunities

  1. Walk For Valour committee member: Our signature fundraiser is Walk For Valour, and we need supporters to help plan this event. This year it will take place on September 13th. If you enjoy working with a team and planning events, this might be a fit for you.​

     

  2. Van Driver: Occasionally, we have guests who require a ride to and from their appointments or treatments. We have a house van that needs drivers.  Do you have a driver’s license, enjoy driving, and are comfortable driving? Please reach out.

     

  3. Front Desk Fill-In: Help work the front desk during busy times and/or when staff isn’t on-site.
  1. Events Volunteer: Work at Valour events supporting the success of the event.

  2. Valour Ambassador: This is a public speaking role in which you’d attend various events and speak about Valour Place and our mission.

  3. House Maintenance Helper: We are always looking for volunteers who have experience with maintenance and are willing and able to come to the house to help. Some tasks include bottle returns, painting, picture hanging, light plumbing, and general house care.

The Graftons

Valour Place became a home away from home this summer for Chantelle Grafton, who travelled from Prince George, BC to undergo two months of medical trials aimed at improving mobility in her arms. In 2019, a spinal cord injury from an accident took away her ability to feel below her neck. Despite this life-changing challenge, Chantelle’s determination shines brightly as she steadily regains strength in her arms. A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Chantelle and her husband, Warren, to hear more about how Valour Place helped the couple in their time of need.

Kelsey and Dylan

Kelsey and I both grew up in Prince Edward County, Ontario. We reconnected after high school—me working construction, her at Tim Hortons—and a snowy first date sparked the beginning of a relationship that has weathered every storm since. When the military accepted my application, we moved to Cold Lake, Alberta, where I now serve as a Corporal and Avionics Systems Technician with 417 Search and Rescue Squadron. Kelsey works locally with the Commissionaires, supporting 4 Wing operations. Throughout my career, I’ve faced ongoing eye and vision issues that required specialist care in Edmonton. Valour Place has been there for us from the start—offering a safe, welcoming place to stay for appointments and surgeries that would otherwise mean costly hotels or long, exhausting drives. But nothing has compared to how much Valour Place has meant to us during this past year. Without a family doctor in Cold Lake, our high-risk pregnancy was transferred to Royal Alexandra Hospital. Our son was born 12 weeks early, requiring intensive NICU care. Valour Place became our home for weeks on end. The staff offered more than just a room—they gave us comfort, flexibility, and support during an incredibly emotional time. Being right down the road from our newborn, surrounded by people who understand, made all the difference. We are lucky to call this place home while we visit our boy in the NICU and watch him grown until we can go home. My favourite memory of Valour Place is forever changing. I love meeting all the different folks from all the surrounding areas and provinces and chatting with them. The feeling of being home with your family at Valour Place is an understatement. The staff make you feel at home, helping with anything you could ask for. Everyone who visits Valour Place is there for their own specific reason, but the common ground of having a safe roof over your head and maybe a common life experience really brings people together – that’s healing – and that’s my favourite. Valour Place has supported our family emotionally, mentally, and financially. We couldn’t have navigated this journey without it. Thank you to the incredible staff and supporters who keep Valour Place running—it has truly been our home away from home. -Dylan
